When we bought our Amel Super Maramu (ASM), we weren’t sure if it was possible to convert the saloon table into a (double) bed, but we sure hoped it would be possible. We knew some people changed their saloon table to make it possible, but nothing beats an “originally designed to do so” solution 🙂 We had seen some cushions hiding under the settee, but had not yet had time to work out what they were for.
A little over a week ago, we found that they were the exact size and shape of the table top. And upon inspecting the table top closely, we saw it was very easy to remove and there were plenty of supports for the table top to be used as a bed – including the bottle holder itself. But, removing the table legs was not easy. They seemed stuck, and we didn’t want to damage our table. I headed on over to the Amel email & Facebook groups, to see if anyone had any info on how to do this.
The answers went from “no, but I’d love to know if it can be done” to “can’t be done, impossible with Amel”. But after some persistant searching and digging, I found info on another ASM that had the exact same table we do, and that one did, indeed, convert into a berth. That ASM is from 1994 as well, and only a few hull numbers after ours (we’re 120). Now convinced, we gave it another go, and OH YES BABY! Our table can convert into a double bed in less than 5 minmutes. Thank you Amel!

Below, you can see exactly what our table looks like, and where we found the special cushions for the table top. We only know about one other Amel that has the exact same table, so please make sure you have the exact same set-up as we do, and be very careful not to damage anything. This is what we found on our boat, and what worked for us. We can’t guarantee your table has the same options or if it does, that it can be converted like ours can. Use your own judgement and common sense 😉

Fantastic table , you are very lucky! I have ASM n° 471 with almost the same table but it is not convertible unfortunately 😏

Thanks for taking the time to show this to us. We were two years too early as our ASM is hull 72 built in 1992 and we don’t have this feature. Hopefully I can talk my husband into making ours like this!
I hope you can convince your husband too! The only thing better than an ASM is an ASM with a lounge area in the saloon 😉
Though I’m not 100% sure, I think the convertible table was an option when buying new at the time, just like the desk or single bed in the aft cabin.
