One of the reasons we wanted an Amel was (is) the build quality. Contrary to populair believe, not all CE CLASS A are build equally well / solid / strong. There’s a huge difference between the different brands out there, and even when looking at the same brand, the year the boat was built can make a big difference in the quality of the build. Newer, my friends, is not always better.
Below you’ll find a scan of a Yachting World Magazine of January 1993, taking a good, hard look at how Amels – or, in this case, the Amel Super Maramu, was build. It’s an interesting read no matter what type or brand of boat you’re looking for. One of the most important, but often somehow overlooked (!), priorities when looking for a saling yacht should be how well it is build and the quality of the materials used.
Enjoy the read – it’s very much worth it, even if you never want to own an Amel yourself.
